I like playing with makeup just as much as the next gal but avoid it as much as i can during the summer months.  First, i tan so easily i require both a winter & summer set of pallets. Fun but expensive. Second, the unbearable heat and the not so attractive fact that i perspire profusely, just makes the entire process more of a turn-off.

I believe how you care for your skin is key. I am lucky to have smooth partially blemish-free skin with only the occasional spotting. I am diligent about washing my face every night before bed, i exfoliate once a week, and i try a different face-mask at least once a month. I also drink a lot of water. A LOT OF WATER. This is important.  Additional benefits to less makeup in the summer? It allows for my skin to breathe and rely on its natural oils.

Now of course there are social occasions where some form of enhancing is necessary.  For example i believe it is a rule to never leave the house without sunscreen and mascara. Just no. I am forty years old and i am proud of my skin; i’ve followed these simple rules my entire adult life and they have served me well.

The above pallets and products are what i use as part of my routine whenever necessary. They are fun, light, and get the job well done.

Rimmel London Concealer in Medium (not pictured) – perfect for covering small blemishes and blends right in.

Olay Complete moisture cream with sunscreen (not pictured) – sun protection is key.

Sephora Eyeshadow in Let it Snow, Fresh Paint and Bubble Shower – offers a clean look all around

Too Faced Deep Matte Bronzer – a little contouring doesn’t hurt anyone.

Meet Matt(e) Hughes (committed) – i got sample from Sephora and i’m love.

Benefit They’re Real Mascara – still my number one favorite mascaras.

One thing I don’t mention here is any form of foundation. I simply cannot commit to this during the summer.  The best i could do is a light BB cream and in case of emergency my go-to is Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream in light medium.

So what’s your makeup routine like? Share some of your secrets in the comments below. I would love to hear them.

*this is non sponsored post – just my love for these products*
