Remember my semi-failed apple picking adventure here?  I had so many plans for those now mythical apples.  Sigh. I’m still torn up about it i wont lie… although i did manage to walk away with already-picked-apples from a bin. BORING.
But ever the optimist, i made the best of it and allowed myself to have apple pie making dream while consulting Pinterest, of course.  I decided to start small and tried my hand at baking an Apple Pie in an Apple.  Simple enough.  I found this recipe and i liked it very much.

{Ingredients per apple}
1 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tbsp all purpose flour
1/4 tsp powdered cinnamon
1 Box of Pillsbury refrigerated Pie Crusts (as if i was going to make pie crust from scratch. ha!)
Step 1: Cut off the top of apple and put aside.  Carefully and without puncturing the peel, remove the inside of the apple with a spoon (i used a measuring spoon). Do the same with the apple top.
Step 2: In a bowl, mix scooped apple with brown sugar, all purpose flour, and cinnamon.
Step 3: Placed mixed scooped apple into hallow apple.
Step 4: Roll out a Pillsbury pie crust over slightly sifted flour and cut top with a cookie cutter.  I used a star cookie cutter. Make small holes in crust to allow the vapor to release during baking
Step 5: Cover the top of the apple with star pie crust.
Step 6: Bake at 350°F in a baking pan lined with parchment paper for 25 minutes.
The blog i referenced for my recipe instructed to bake for a bout 40 minutes and at 370°F.  This actually turned out disastrous for me so a little less heat and a little less time. Trial and error.

Step 5: Let cool and eat up!!!
For my first attempt i did pretty well although visually it was well… a picture is worth a thousand words.  But it tasted damn good and that’s all that matters.
With this recipe i think i now know what i’ll be contributing to the Thanksgiving dinner table this year.

  1. Would you believe me if i told you i'm not sure. LOL.
    I think it was either Jonathan or macIntosh apples. But honestly any kind will do the job. 🙂
