Warm and humid summer days calls for refreshing and fruity cocktails. It never hurts to have a little secret – or in my roommates case, ‘experimental’ mix up your sleeve. I thought no better time to share this recipe with you than the present. July 4th is this weekend so its the perfect time to show-off some of that mixologist skills. This drink is just the right amount of kick and sassy.
This drink came about by chance. Kinsey (the roommie) was resourceful by using what we already had in the house. Normally we are wine drinkers at home but occasionally we’ll bring in the good stuff: the Mezcal has been carefully nursed for close to a year. Triple sec just makes everything a bit more interesting and well fruit juices and garnish were just an additional plus.
So here is the simple breakdown for this drink. It’s along the lines of a fruit punch so make a jar-full and share with your friend – or simply do as we did – settled down on the fire escape and enjoy. Summer time drinks on your fire escape is New York City living at its best!
1/2 ounce of Mezcal
1/2 – 3/4 ounce of triple sec
1/2 cup orange juice
3/4 cup of apple juice
small hand-full of blueberry
Mint and lemon for garnish
Pour all the liquid ingredients into a mixer, a few mint leaves, several cubes of ice and shake well.
Once well shaken pour into mug for serving. Drop a few blueberries in for additional flavor. Garnish with a slice of lemon and additional mint leaves.
Serve and drink!
